Unplug your Children:  Lead Them to the Benefits of Outdoor Play

Published in Maine Women's Journal: June 2006

Unstructured play in the out of doors is a gift most adults growing up in Maine, or other rural states, have been privileged to experience.  However, this is often not true for the children and youth currently growing up in Maine or elsewhere.

In his most recent book, Last Child in the Woods, Richard Louv, a nationally noted child advocate, quotes from an interview with a 4th grader:

Communicating With The Deceased #4
Saturday, 24 November 2007

For many days I worked with Donald’s spirit and helped bridge the gap between him and his family by communicating what he wanted, how he wanted to live out his remaining days and how he wanted to die.  There were a lot of specific details about his wishes regarding his property, and other occasionally humorous exchanges like get me out of this @#$#@@ hospital gown and get me my pajamas!
