Dory's Biography

I did not imagine myself as a shamanic healer until a visit with Arifa Boehler, a Maine astrologer. She challenged me to step into my true gifts and my calling as a spiritual healer. She urged me to study shamanism and shamanic healing. I attended an introductory workshop in shamanism with David Corbin & Nan Moss, in Maine, and I knew, instantly, that shamanism was my path.

Since that time I have thrown myself wholeheartedly into the study of shamanism and shamanic healing. To be an effective shamanic healing practitioner in our modern society, we have to go back in time to study the ways of the ancient indigenous peoples of all continents. The shamans of old.

In order to do that, I completed a two-week intensive in shamanism, led by Sandra Ingerman, followed by a three-year program in advanced shamanism and shamanic healing with the Foundation for Shamanic Studies, based in California. My teacher in that three-year program was also Sandra Ingerman. Additionally, I took numerous weekend shamanic workshops and a week-long advanced shamanic workshop in Soul Retrieval, also led by Sandra Ingerman. I have been studying weather shamanism with Nan Moss & David Corbin.

Prior to studying shamanism, I did some intensive training with Rosalyn Bruyere, also a shaman, and a well-known, hands-on heale. Additionally, I have studied Reiki and other hands-on healing methods.

As a result of my training as a teacher of shamanism, I now teach beginner and advanced workshops in shamanism. Through my own training, I have found the value of long-term programs. These longer programs, or apprenticeships, in advanced shamanism and shamanic healing give the student a much more in depth experience and the opportunity to truly become the "hollow bone", a necessity to truly being an effective shamanic healing practitioner.

I have taught many shamanic healing workshops and now teach several long-term shamanic, apprenticeship programs, as well, here in Maine. I have many students who are doing great work in the world. Some shamanic healers are called to work on healing the Earth, others are called to infuse their shamanic knowledge into their already existing work such as woodwork, or massage, or nursing, to name a few. Not everyone is called to make their living as a shamanic healing practitioner seeing and working with clients.

As people who pursue a shamanic path, as many of you are, we believe in the principle of the oneness with the web of life. That also involves a responsibility to be in harmony and in regular, direct communication with the elements, plants, trees, birds, insects, and all life forms. Remember, all living things have spirit! And they exist in perpetuity in non-ordinary reality.
